Denmark to Athens - Amazing Trip

Everyone knows we love to travel, but most don't understand it. I think what we really like is experiencing the different cultures and witnessing the spectacular sights and sounds that are in this world. You just can't read a book or watch a program on television and get it. You have to experience it. This trip, took us to so many different countries and cultures that we were both on overload. It was probably one of the best trips we have had so far.
DENMARK
We arrived in Denmark at 9:00 in the morning and very tired. We were unsure how to take the train to our hotel, but it turned out easy. The Danish are very friendly and almost everyone speaks English. It is amazing how easy languages are to the European people. They were really nice at the hotel and let us check in early. We gratefully stumbled to our room and took a three hour nap.

In the afternoon, we headed for the canals and went on a canal ride. What a great way to see the city. The canals were at one time moats around the city to protect it. Now they are beautiful waterways connecting the various neighborhoods. My favorite was Nyhaven. It is quaint and trendy with lots of restaurants and shops. It used to be the red light district for sailors.

We also saw the Little Mermaid but the sun was setting so it was hard to get a good look at her. Copenhagen is called the city of spires and you can see why. The skyline is beautiful. Next we headed to the Ice Bar. Everything is made of ice including the walls, tables, seats and even glasses. We only stayed 10 minutes tops because it was so cold. After an expensive dinner, we went to Tivoli Gardens just to see what it was like. They were having a concert of some sort with lots of people. It sort of put you in another world with all of the lights and the music playing.

THE SHIP
The next morning we went to the ship. We were unsure if we had an upgrade. We paid for an outside cabin but we got a balcony. It was great. Right now I am sitting on the balcony watching the blue ocean go by and writing. Perfect. Ships are great places to meet people. We met Marianne and John from Kansas in the Atlanta Airport, Rick and Carla from Las Vegas, and Wendy and Tim from Pennsylvania along with many others. The food was great too - especially chocolate desserts.
